When the temperatures begin to fall, and you notice the days getting chillier you know that summer has departed. You adapt your wardrobe so that you’ll be able to take on the elements and some think it stops there. Hair care is sometimes forgotten about and as a result the products you use may not be appropriate for the weather.
Marco Dias is the owner of The Studio hairdressers in Dublin and winner of the Creative Vision Ireland Heat at the Wella TrendVision Awards 2018. He gave me his top tips and product recommendations on how to keep hair looking healthy and stylish this Autumn/Winter (A/W).
A pompadour (quiff) fade is a great option this A/W and you should use a pomade to achieve the look. The style suits thick hair, rather than thin hair as a pomade weighs down thin hair, making it weaker. A pompadour can also emphasize thin hair which isn’t a good look. If you want to make a real statement, Dias mentions that bleached hair is on trend this season, thanks to the likes of Philipp Plein’s Autumn/Winter show.
Alternatively, you can embrace your preppy side and go with a classic parting up top. The side parting hairstyle for A/W 2018 should have shorter layers and lots of texture, creating a fuller effect. Keep the sides long with a scissor-cut or op for a low fade. This look is quick to style and easy to maintain. A pomade or a hair serum will help you to achieve this look when applied to towel dry hair.
The award-winning hairdresser recommends that a messy textured look is great for mid length hair. A texturing paste like Wella EIMI BOLD MOVE can give your hair this messy textured look.
You should use hair styling products sparingly if you have thin hair as excessive use can cause your hair to become weaker. Drinking water and eating nutrient rich foods can help to strengthen your hair. So, get lots of water, fruit and vegetables in your diet. It’s tempting to crank up the shower temperature at this time of year, but Dias says that this can dry your hair out, increasing the chances of it getting damaged. He says that conditioner is essential at this time of year because it stops hair from losing too much oil, after shampooing it.
So, keep your hair stylish and healthy this Autumn/Winter by following this advice.
